Car-sharing operator Zipcar and the Westminster City Council in London have launched a new car sharing club fleet that will initially include 20 hybrid vehicles and will offer members access to the country’s first all-electric car club vehicle, a Citroen c1.
The complex system leverages GM’s learnings from its two-mode hybrid system in a number of areas, including the efficiency benefits of a multiple-motor approach to meeting the full range of electric drive operating requirements; synchronous clutches; and the vehicle’s control software and architecture. The fleet will initially include 20 hybrid vehicles and offer members access to the country’s first all-electric car club vehicle the Citroen C1. Motorists will also be able to drive a plug-in version of the Toyota Prius, as well as the Honda Insight Hybrid.
