Axeon , Europe’s largest independent lithium-ion battery systems supplier, will develop a new high-capacity battery system for the electric Citroën C1 ev’ie, manufactured by the UK-based Electric Car Corporation ( earlier post ), with a view to supplying between 300 and 500 units in the 12 months following a successful trial.

The complex system leverages GM’s learnings from its two-mode hybrid system in a number of areas, including the efficiency benefits of a multiple-motor approach to meeting the full range of electric drive operating requirements; synchronous clutches; and the vehicle’s control software and architecture. —Pam Fletcher.
