Local carmakers have thus far maintained a strong foothold in the market, and account for the bulk of electric car sales in cumulative terms since 2010, led by Tata Motors (70%) and Mahindra & Mahindra (10%). In FY2024, electric car and SUV sales in India jumped 90% to over 90,000 units.
