Researchers from Chalmers University of Technology, Sweden, and the National Institute of Chemistry, Slovenia, have developed a new concept for an aluminum battery delivering twice the energy density as previous versions, made of abundant materials, and with the potential to reduce production costs and environmental impact.

We tested the X-Trail hybrid at its international launch in Slovenia. The route included motorway, major arterial and winding mountain roads, gravel-surfaced forest tracks and narrow village streets. The battery packs used in both are also essentially the same, with a usable capacity a little below 2.0kWh.

Slovenia, Iceland, the Netherlands, Ireland, India, Denmark, Sweden, Israel, Germany and the United Kingdom all have 2030 deadlines. Networks should increase the uptake of demand response so EV batteries can effectively be used to delay network investments. There are at least 31 countries and U.S. Japan has a 2035 deadline.
