The new product is targeted to be a high-power electrical storage system for hybrid racing cars capable of deep depths of discharge with no performance degradation and a long service life. The new flywheel capacitor product will be commercially available from both Magneti Marelli and Flybrid Systems.

To save weight, components such as the oil tank, the air filter box integrated into the subframe and the air induction are made of carbon fiber reinforced polymer. The V8 engine is coupled to the hybrid module—the 918 Spyder is designed as a parallel hybrid as are the current hybrid models from Porsche.
