Buoyed by the US government’s CARS (“Cash for Clunkers”) program, US auto sales slowed their decline in the US in July, dropping on 12.1% to 554, 527 units, while light truck sales dropped 14.1% Retail sales were down 9% while fleet sales declined 47%. Well, America’s auto industry delivered over 100,000. It helps that the auto industry will be building more efficient new vehicles. As batteries get cheaper and smaller, and motors get light enough to fit inside wheels, we’ll be able to upgrade smaller cars. It’s a 21st-century equivalent of what we did in 1942.
