Longer term, California, the Canadian province of Nova Scotia, Japan, and Western Australia are all looking to the sea to help meet their demands for hydrogen. Airplanes, for example, won’t be able to fly long distances on battery power. The process emits about 10 tonnes of CO2 per tonne of hydrogen.
