The trade wars, lower economic growth and tougher emissions regulations came long before the COVID-19 crisis. This is in part due to the collapse of the Italian and French markets, on which small cars are heavily reliant for sales—in 2019, 38% of A and B segment registrations in Europe occurred in Italy and France.
