They leased a few (at a loss) to those that could afford it. If you build a car as a "kit car" with no real factory, then yes, it will never be an economic success. To get the most mileage, one could not have the radio, the A/C, or the headlights on. We are addicted to the gasoline tax both at the State and Federal level.
