The agreement with FCA US marks the first time LG Chem will engineer and manufacture a complete battery pack in Michigan for a volume production North American PHEV. The powertrain of the 2016 Sonata Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHEV) ( earlier post ) was named to Ward’s 10 Best Engines list. To be eligible, a new or significantly improved engine or propulsion system must be on sale in a production vehicle during the first quarter of 2016, with a base price capped at $61,000.

Hyundai lanched the 2016 Hyundai Sonata Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle—Hyundai’s first plug-in hybrid vehicle—along with the hybrid version of the seventh-generation Sonata, at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit. BMW will stage the world premiere of the new BMW 5 Series Sedan and the US premiere of the BMW Concept X2 at the North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) in January in Detroit. In the US, the BMW 530e iPerformance is the fourth member of a growing portfolio of iPerformance (PHEV) models already available at US dealers.

Chrysler unveiled the all-new 2017 Pacifica minivan in both conventional and plug-in hybrid versions at the North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) in Detroit. The PHEV is the minivan segment’s first. The Pacifica Hybrid will deliver an estimated all-electric range of 30 miles from a 16-kWh lithium-ion (Li-ion) battery.
