The demonstration will run from April 2015 (the beginning of fiscal 2015) until the end of fiscal 2020 (March 2021). The independent energy supply system combines a 25 kW photovoltaic facility; a storage battery; hydrogen-producing water electrolysis equipment; hydrogen (275 Nm 3 ) and water tanks; and fuel cells.

The battery storage system also includes a voltage converter and power electronics to manage the energy flow between renewable energy sources, the house interface, and the Li-Ion high-voltage battery from the BMW i3. The INEES research project, which ran from 1 June 2012 to 31 December 2015, investigated the possibility of achieving a balancing and stabilizing effect on the power grid using a pool of electric vehicles. The vehicles could store excess electricity as well as put surplus energy back into the power grid.
