The vehicles run on lithium ion batteries which, using specialist, high-power charging equipment, can be can be fast charged in less than fifteen minutes. Established in 2008, it has already converted eight Lotuses, and is working on five VW Golfs. And you can use the sockets you have at home to charge, without a problem.

The Tesla Roadster can go 244 miles on a charge, but recharging it takes hours. In late 2008, BYD started selling the first production PHEV in China. This is from "Commercializing Plug-In Hybrids" (pdf), the current CalCars 24-slide presentation about PHEVs available along with other documents at CalCars Downloads. First Escape PHEV delivered to SCE Nov 2007; 20 in 2008-2009. Batteries not ready.
