In late 2008, BYD started selling the first production PHEV in China. First Escape PHEV delivered to SCE Nov 2007; 20 in 2008-2009. Visionary Vehicles Team w/Malcolm Bricklin (who brought the Subaru and the Yugo to America) aims for luxury PHEV. Batteries not ready. Has shown some concept fuel-cell PHEVs.

It offers 18 models that deliver 30 mpg or more. "It is unreasonable to expect the Volt and any similar new technology to be immediately profitable when other technologies that started with a price premium, such as the Toyota Prius, became wild successes," said Chelsea Sexton, an advisory board member of Plug-In America.
