A PHEV with only a 20-mile all-electric range is 62% lower (see printed page 95 in the 2004 study ). GM has announced plans for public sales in 2010, and almost every carmaker now says it will sell PHEVs or highway-speed battery electric vehicles (BEVs) sometime after 2010. Several dozen prototypes on 15-passenger van since 2004; now in second generation development; no production plans. todays answer is "Yes -- but not yet."
