In 2021, the IMU units you could buy off the shelf were pretty inexpensive and reliable. Flexo, built in 2003. At this point it was 2008, and AMPbot was scheduled for release in early 2009, but that was not to be. On all my early attempts, about 30 Hz was enough to keep the robot stable.
