The Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI) estimates that the current power grid could handle many tens of millions of cars plugging in at off-peak hours before wed have any capacity issues [See EPRI article PDF ]. The Think City was short-lived in the States with production halting in 2002 after just 1005 cars had been assembled. Tax credit incentives are also available to consumers in the U.S. The electricity for recharging has to come from somewhere, which means power plants. Toyota still has not made any money on the Prius.
