New ORNL non-precious metal catalyst shows promise as low-cost component for low-temperature exhaust aftertreatment

Green Car Congress

Researchers at Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) have developed a ternary mixed oxide catalyst composed of copper oxide, cobalt oxide, and ceria (dubbed “CCC”) that outperforms synthesized and commercial platinum group metal (PGM) catalysts for CO oxidation in simulated exhaust streams while showing no signs of inhibition—i.e.,

Dürr building smart paint shop for JAC plant for electric vehicles in China

Green Car Congress

Dürr is building a fully automatic paint shop for a Anhui Jianghuai Automobile (JAC) plant in China. In order to reduce the solvent emissions as much as possible, the exhaust air flow is purified from the clear coat booths as well as the paint mixing rooms. The results of the tests are visualized using traffic light functions.

New process uses localized surface plasmons for room-temperature conversion of CO2 to CO

Green Car Congress

Researchers at the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) and their colleagues have demonstrated a room-temperature method that could significantly reduce carbon dioxide levels in fossil-fuel power plant exhaust, one of the main sources of carbon emissions in the atmosphere.

Canada aligns with US on light-duty vehicle GHGs, Tier 3 regulations and heavy-duty vehicle fuel efficiency

Green Car Congress

The final Regulations Amending the Passenger Automobile and Light Truck Greenhouse Gas Emission Regulations for model year 2017 and beyond will be published in the Canada Gazette, Part II, on 8 October. Once fully phased-in, the Tier 3 exhaust emission standards would be as much as 80% lower than current Tier 2 emission standards.

Progress on ATLAS: Cummins’ Tier 2 Bin 2 light duty diesel project

Green Car Congress

Cummins is one year into a four year program (ATLAS, Advanced Technology Light Automotive Systems) to develop, in partnership with the US Department of Energy (DOE), a new light-duty diesel truck engine that will meet Tier 2 Bin 2 (SULEV) emission requirements while achieving at least a 40% fuel economy improvement (26.1 mpg US vs. 18.6

New Delphi Technologies 500+ bar GDi system cuts gasoline particulate emissions by up to 50%, reduces fuel consumption

Green Car Congress

Reducing the number of exhaust gas particulates, including those smaller than 23 nm, will help manufacturers meet increasingly stringent future global emissions standards. Reducing engine-out emissions cuts tailpipe emissions in the crucial period before catalyst light-off and reduces the need for costly aftertreatment systems.
