Used Priuses, especially the Generation 2 that were made from 2004 to 2009 are becoming a bargain to buy, especially for the MPG and features you get in return. The official fuel consumption is 5 l/100 km (47 mpg US) and that is bang on for us as well. l/100 km (51 mpg US) in the summer, and 5.3 l/100 km (44 mpg US) in winter.

Toyota introduces 2012 Prius Plug-in Hybrid

With seating for five, the 2012 Prius Plug-in hybrid is expected to achieve a manufacturer-estimated 87 mpge (miles per gallon equivalent) in combined driving and 49 mpg in hybrid mode, or 2.7 The engine also uses an electrically driven air conditioning compressor and water pump to reduce mechanical losses. VDC up to 650 volts DC.
