Jeep Wrangler 4xe leads PHEVs. While pure EV sales were up compared to last year, plug-in hybrids (PHEVs), hybrids (HEVs) and fuel cell electric vehicles (FCEVs) were down. The best-selling plug-in hybrid was the Jeep Wrangler 4xe while hybrids were dominated by Toyota/Lexus models that took 55% of that market segment.

To further reduce fuel consumption, Chrysler incorporated stop/start technology into the new Ram 1500 as well as the diesel version of the Jeep Wrangler that Fiat is selling on our behalf in Europe. This transmission is now in the new Ram 1500, the Jeep Grand Cherokee (including in the diesel version), and the Dodge Durango.

The accelerating pace of electric vehicle launches has brought us to this: The first Jeep in the US to get a plug-in hybrid version is the legendary Wrangler. The two couldn’t be more different.
