Development of this lithium-ion battery was inspired by technologies that have already proven themselves under the conditions in the Mercedes-AMG Petronas F1 team's Formula 1 hybrid racing cars. In the European Union the system is active up to 20 km/h (12 mph), in the USA up to the equivalent of approx. 30 km/h (18 mph).
