Toyota’s hybrid sales in Europe reach one million units

Hybrid sales already account for 23% of Toyota Motor Europe’s (TME’s) total sales year-to-date. In August, Toyota Motor Corporation announced that Toyota and Lexus combined had sold more than eight million hybrid cars worldwide since the launch of the Toyota Prius in 1997. TME will add the RAV4 Hybrid in January next year.

Sales of hybrid-electric vehicles in the UK have steadily risen over the past five years, according to figures from the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders. From 2007 up to the end of the first quarter of this year, almost 100,000 hybrid vehicles have been sold in the UK; the market share of hybrids has almost doubled, from 0.7%
