These vehicles are expected to range in price from about $40,000 to more than $100,000. All will qualify for a $7,500 federal tax credit. Then there are a slew of fully electric small vehicles that are pinning their hopes on eco-conscious city dwellers who may not want to spend much more than $25,000 on a new technology.

The head of Chryslers ENVI division, Lou Rhodes, told AutoblogGreen this morning that Chrysler is marketing this battery-only version of the van to commercial fleet customers who typically have shorter range requirements. Although charging infrastructure is beginning to find its way into cities, it may be awhile until they are available in residential neighborhoods en masse. For extended range I guess one could carry a fairly modest generator set in the trunk to avoid ever being stranded. New York 2009: The Scion iQ goes Big Wheels!
