EV’s may be the answer Electric vehicles (EVs) are becoming increasingly popular as gas prices continue to rise. A “Consumer Reports” study stated that EV owners spent approximately 60 percent less on fuel each year than gas vehicle owners. El Paso Electric , for example, offers a popular EV cost of ownership calculator.

Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle All Around America (PHEV3A) tour with "EVJerry" Asher driving started last year on Earth Day, in front of the Nation’s Capitol. The plug-in hybrid vehicle the “Spirit of DC" was designed to run on electricity alone for about 10 miles before reverting back to acting like an ordinary hybrid.
