Conversions are mostly for the Prius, with a few for the Ford Escape/Mercury Mariner hybrid SUVs. At these prices, people are buying the "environmental feature" -- they want to be among the first owners of the worlds cleanest extended-range vehicles. A new trend is conversion of internal combustion engine vehicles.

Maybe you should ask some engineers at the local power utility before you go shooting your mouth off, decrying how the idea will never fly. For extended range I guess one could carry a fairly modest generator set in the trunk to avoid ever being stranded. my idea is that it would work the way propane tanks work now.
