The data analyzed by Aston University combines and compares the behavior patterns of 25 Mitsubishi i-MiEV drivers over two consecutive quarters. Each vehicle in the CABLED trial is fitted with GPS and data logger, designed and installed by Coventry based RDM Automotive. The average charge time per i-MiEV vehicle is two hours.

Currently, there are some industrial facilities that use battery swapping to replenish the energy stores of electric forklifts. Like shopping malls for example, or very nearly any manufacturer or industrial consumer. For extended range I guess one could carry a fairly modest generator set in the trunk to avoid ever being stranded.
