General Dynamics NASSCO launches first LNG-powered containership

On Saturday 18 April in San Diego, General Dynamics NASSCO launched the 764-foot (233m), 3100 TEU Isla Bella , the first LNG-powered containership. GI , with maximum power output of 25,191 kW (33,782 hp) @ 104.0 The LNG-powered ships will also include a ballast water treatment system, making them the greenest ships of their size.

General Dynamics NASSCO delivers 1st LNG-powered containership; christens first ECO tanker

General Dynamics NASSCO delivered the world’s first liquefied natural gas (LNG) powered containership, the Isla Bella , to TOTE Maritime. This ship technology will decrease emissions and increase fuel efficiency when compared to conventionally-powered ships—the equivalent of removing 15,700 automobiles from the road.
