With the AC system, I'll probably be pulling less amps and am looking forward to the extended range. I feel very fortunate in that the company I work for (HP) has a subscription to IEEE Xplore, so I downloaded literally a hundred scientific papers today on battery management and state-of-charge measurement of lead-acid cells.

Competition is going to force them to produce a comfortable, usable, extended range EV for that price, and I will just have to wait. The first one was the Zytek design you mentioned, but this is a 2nd "new and improved" design from Tesla, with more power, higher speed and greater range.

The head of Chryslers ENVI division, Lou Rhodes, told AutoblogGreen this morning that Chrysler is marketing this battery-only version of the van to commercial fleet customers who typically have shorter range requirements. The extended-range version will be focused on retail customers.

Third, I dont understand why people feel it available in message chatting to speak in a manner they would doubtless not use in personal conversation. For extended range I guess one could carry a fairly modest generator set in the trunk to avoid ever being stranded. Must you say "incredibly idiotic" and "mind numbingly dumb"?
