He was largely responsible for moving the International Solid-State Circuits Conference in 1978 from Philadelphia to San Francisco. He helped found the IEEE Conference on Automation Science and Engineering. The next year he chaired the 2004 European Magnetic Sensors and Actuators Conference. as an engineer.
