That event was meant to show that the new company, a combination of the old Fiat Chrysler Automobiles with Europe’s Peugeot Citroën, had the plans to electrify its model line that FCA conspicuously lacked. Chrysler’s two Detroit competitors have been fairly forthcoming about the charging behavior of drivers of their plug-in hybrids.

The basic equation governing the charging of batteries is W = V * A, or to put it into words, Watts equals Volts times Amps. Chrysler used this for their EPIC Minivan and could charge at a rate of about one mile per minute. Some industrial sites are even set up with 440V 3 phase service.

Chrysler alone, for instance, may have 3 different battery pack shapes in its upcoming models. Therefore, until we get quick-charge batteries -- based on new breakthroughs, Ill take a WAG and estimate that we will have real 5-minute quick-charge batteries in perhaps 10 years -- we are likely to get our juice mostly from our home chargers.
