There are encouraging signs for people struggling to buy new cars too. According to The AA if all UK vehicles on the road eligible for the scrappage scheme were to be replaced with new cars it would result in a decrease of almost 30 per cent of carbon emissions and a 30 per cent increase in fuel efficiency.
