Chevrolet Volts: extended range electric vehicles (EREVs). SCAQMD/EPRI/Via Motors: PHEV vans and pickups. When privately owned Volts are charged frequently, they achieved better than 120 mpg in normal consumer use patterns. Also, workplace charging was found to enable significant electric range extension.

GM has announced plans for public sales in 2010, and almost every carmaker now says it will sell PHEVs or highway-speed battery electric vehicles (BEVs) sometime after 2010. Batteries not ready.
