GM has announced plans for public sales in 2010, and almost every carmaker now says it will sell PHEVs or highway-speed battery electric vehicles (BEVs) sometime after 2010. Batteries not ready. Hyundai Partnering with Korean battery companies for hybrids. 2010 Prius designed to be manufactured with NiMH or Lithium batteries.

If you want it to perform like a sports car instead of a slug in a sportscars skin, youre going to need that 10k for the ac drive system alone, and then maybe another 15k for a lithium battery pack. The benefit of a higher voltage connector has nothing to do with the speed at which the battery will charge it has to do with the conductor size. That being said, even a car that derives its energy from coal power plants would be far more clean. excluding coal power in china. lol BUT everyone is entitled to their own opinion.
