Renault and Nissan are determined to establish an early lead in the new massmarket for electric cars. Their solution to the cost of thenew-generation batteries is to separate them from the car itself. Also, Firefly batteries now being produced use lead foam in lead-acid configuration, cutting their weight almost in half.
