He was born in 1921 in Azerbaijan, then part of the Soviet Union, and moved to Iran at age 10. Two weeks later he had a fairly fleshed-out group of concepts to present to his collaborator at Rand, Richard Bellman. Part of the problem was the name—“fuzzy” is hardly proper terminology. Research in Iran was nonexistent.”
