He was born in 1921 in Azerbaijan, then part of the Soviet Union, and moved to Iran at age 10. As a child, Zadeh was surrounded by governesses and tutors, while as a young adult, he had a personal servant. Two weeks later he had a fairly fleshed-out group of concepts to present to his collaborator at Rand, Richard Bellman.
