The projects are funded through ARPA-E’s two newest programs, Advanced Research In Dry cooling (ARID) and Accelerating Low-cost Plasma Heating and Assembly (ALPHA), which both seek to develop low-cost technology solutions. SRI will produce its STATIC cover using low-cost, scalable processing technologies.

The alternative-fuel car evolved to reduce exhaust emissions and other problems derived from burning fossil fuels. Gasoline/diesel fueling stations to replenish the liquid fuel for these engines are readily available. Appropriately using the slow-charging option available to all PHEVs, we can greatly increase the UF of the grid.
