Electrify America plans to install 30 electric fleet-dedicated chargers paired with battery energy storage systems (BESS) at the Port of Long Beach, California, as part of Electrify America’s $25-million “Green City” investment in the region at the Ports of Long Beach and Los Angeles.

The PHEV does not require the heavy, costly batteries required by other electric cars, nor does it suffer from a limited range or poor freeway performance. Though the PHEV combines the two types of energy and power, it is not merely a temporary “transition” between gasoline and diesel cars to pure electric cars.

The three leading new options to re-supply our autos with energy are charging at home, battery swap stations and fast charge stations. Although charging infrastructure is beginning to find its way into cities, it may be awhile until they are available in residential neighborhoods en masse.
