Audi is introducing a standard technical update for its first all-electric product, the e-tron. The new models are available now to customers in Europe. In normal driving, the motor on the rear axle provides propulsion as standard. Only when the driver requests more power do both motors spring into action.

Up to a 35% gain in fuel efficiency in heavy drive cycles is achieved by regenerating the braking energy that is normally wasted to heat, and using this energy instead of the internal combustion engine for acceleration. This is higher than the industry standard operating pressure of 5,000 psi (350 bar).
