You could argue a plug-in hybrid (PHEV) does that, but that’s not really true. A PHEV is a dual-drive vehicle, but is either a gas-powered car carrying around an electric motor and load of batteries to assist it or an EV lugging a heavy gas engine in case it runs out of battery. But it is still a mass-produced automobile.
