One Bloomberg study found 341 miles was the average range desired, while Deloitte Consulting’s 2022 Global Automotive Consumer Study found US consumers want to be able to travel 518 miles on a fully charged battery in a BEV that costs $50,000 or less. Arguments over how much range is needed are contentious.

This is a much bigger call than choosing VHS over Betamax, because owning a dead end technology could cost you $50,000. Considering the cost of batteries, these are disposable cars. The true impact of electric vehicles should consider the make-up of the power grids where these cars will be used. Does that bother you?
