The first was a television-style camera system (called a Return Beam Vidicon, or RBV) built by the Radio Corporation of America. A multiplexer processed this data, and an analog-to-digital converter changed it to a pulse-code modulated signal. Landsat’s winning tech was the Multispectral Scanner System ERTS was the first of its kind.
