Lux: future use of wide bandgap materials in power electronics will reduce EV cost

Using wide bandgap (WBG) materials such as silicon carbide (SiC) and gallium nitride (GaN)s for power electronics can improve efficiency and thereby reduce the high cost of battery packs, according to a new report from Lux Research. However, for plug-in electric vehicles (PHEVs), the threshold power savings needs to be a higher 5%.
