The New York Police Department (NYPD) has deployed 40 Nissan Altima Hybrids as the first alternative fuel vehicles to be used as marked and unmarked patrol cars in the Police Department’s fleet. The Nissan Altima Hybrids account for 40 of more than 100 total hybrid vehicles the Department is expected to deploy this year.

Comparing GM’s April sales with March, total volume was up 11%, or about 16,600 cars, crossovers and trucks, largely driven by a return to more normal volumes of fleet sales compared with a very weak first quarter. Retail sales were down 32% compared with a year ago and fleet sales were down 30%. Tags: Hybrids Sales.

With average gasoline prices (all grades) remaining down from their highs in mid-2008, light trucks continued to outsell cars in January 2009. All percentages here are by volume, not by adjusted day sales rate. Passenger car sales were led by Camry and Camry Hybrid, which posted combined sales of 20,782 units, down 34.2%

All comparisons are by volume. Hybrids had an especially good month, with reported sales jumping 31.8% Monthly sales of hybrids. Retail sales were down 9% while fleet sales declined 47%. Some highlights: The all-new redesigned Prius mid-size gas-electric hybrid posted best-ever July sales of 19,173 units, up 29.7%

OEM-reported sales of hybrids in the month dropped 28.5% to 25,693 units; hybrids thus held a 2.8% Reported US sales of hybrids. All comparisons here are based on sales volume, and not adjusted for selling days in the period. The Prius mid-size gas-electric hybrid posted May sales of 10,091 units, down 32.8%.
