He was largely responsible for moving the International Solid-State Circuits Conference in 1978 from Philadelphia to San Francisco. He also served as the 2018–2019 chair of the IEEE Technical Activities Board periodicals committee. He helped found the IEEE Conference on Automation Science and Engineering. as an engineer.
