A PHEV with only a 20-mile all-electric range is 62% lower (see printed page 95 in the 2004 study ).

Several dozen prototypes on 15-passenger van since 2004; now in second generation development; no production plans. 2010 Prius designed to be manufactured with NiMH or Lithium batteries. 5/17/06 "Plugin hybrids have a lot of promise, especially to displace oil consumption. The Omori factory currently produces NiMH cells.
