Next came the second-generation Prius in 2003 and the expanded use of TMC’s hybrid system on such vehicles as minivans, SUVs, rear-wheel-drive sedans and hatchbacks. TMC currently sells 16 hybrid vehicle models in approximately 80 countries and regions around the world, including three commercial vehicle models in Japan.

One will be a PHEV version of the new Chrysler Town & Country minivan to be introduced in 2016; the second will be a PHEV version of a new full-size crossover vehicle to be introduced in 2017. FCA will launch a PHEV minivan in 2016 to comply with ZEV requirements. Several mild hybrid applications will come to market shortly thereafter.

Sales of both the Buick New Regal and new Buick LaCROSSE topped 6,000 units in October, while the Buick Excelle surpassed sales of 1 million units since its introduction in 2003. In the first 10 months, SAIC-GM-Wuling, GM’s mini-commercial vehicle joint venture, registered domestic sales of 891,285 units, representing an increase of 65.9%

Toyota Motor Corporation (TMC) announced that global cumulative sales of its hybrid vehicles—passenger car and commercial—topped the 4-million unit mark as of 30 April.
