Mercedes-Benz has been awarded a far-reaching contract for road monitoring through vehicle data by the Netherlands’ Ministry of Infrastructure and Water Management (Min I&W). The geographical breadth of the Road Monitor program (ROMO) extends across all provinces of the Netherlands with a roads network of more than 130,000 kilometers.

Researchers in Netherlands exploring use of lignin as alternative asphalt binder

In the Netherlands there are now test roads and cycle paths that are paved with a bitumen-like product made from the natural binder lignin. We already built eight demonstration roads in the Netherlands with this type of new binder, so 50% lignin, 50% bitumen. More than 200 participants from 38 countries are connected.

ABB to build largest nationwide network of EV fast-charging stations in the Netherlands

ABB has been selected by Fastned to supply chargers to more than 200 electric vehicle fast-charging stations in the Netherlands, bringing an EV fast charger within 50 kilometers (31 miles) of all of the country’s 16.7 To date, the Netherlands is the most populous country to roll out a nationwide fast-charging network.

Wärtsilä swappable battery containers enabling inland waterway vessels to operate with zero emissions

Daimler demonstrates autonomous truck platooning; Highway Pilot Connect delivers ~7% lower fuel consumption

Daimler Trucks demonstrated the new Highway Pilot Connect system for autonomous truck platooning on the A52 autobahn near Düsseldorf. Three WiFi-connected, autonomously driving trucks operated on the autobahn with authorization for public traffic in a platoon formation. CEN and ETSI deliver first set of standards for Cooperative Intelligent Transport Systems (C-ITS) in Europe

Standards organizations CEN and ETSI recently confirmed , at the 6 th ETSI workshop on ITS in Berlin, that the basic set of standards for Cooperative Intelligence Transport Systems (C-ITS), as requested by the European Commission in 2009, have now been adopted and issued. Connected cars are expected to appear on European roads in 2015.
