Roskill: CO2 emissions from lithium production set to triple by 2025

Green Car Congress

With demand for lithium set to increase over the next decade, Roskill has calculated , using its in-house analysis, that CO 2 emissions from lithium production are set to triple by 2025 versus current levels and to grow by a factor of six by 2030, with the vast majority of this coming from mineral concentrate production, shipping and refining.

New electrocatalyst converts CO2 into ethanol, acetone, and n-butanol with high efficiency

Green Car Congress

Excess energy produced by photovoltaics and wind energy could be stored through the electrocatalytic production of fuels from CO 2. However, the electrocatalytic formation of products with two or more carbon atoms (C 2+ ) is very challenging. In contrast, pure copper foil produces C 1 products but hardly any C 2+ products.

Researchers demonstrate efficient electrochemical reduction of CO2 to C2+ alcohols

Green Car Congress

Researchers in China led by a team from Fudan University have demonstrated the electrochemical reduction of CO 2 toward C 2+ alcohols with a faradaic efficiency of ~70% using copper (Cu) catalysts with stepped sites. C 2+ alcohols are desirable due to their high energy densities and large global market capacities.
