One of the annoying behaviors of the motor system in my AC 914 kit is that the default DMOC445 parameters causes the acceleration and braking to have oscillations. I also purchased a plastic toolbox for the trunk filled with most of the stuff I listed in this prior blog entry , just in case I had problems out on the road. I found quite a bit of water in the rear trunk during these rainy days, so I added the weather-stripping that I had never installed from the original ElectroAuto kit.

In a comment to a prior blog entry, Paul J suggested that I try using the brake light signal from the brake pedal to activate the regenerative system. In the original kit instructions, the regen relay turns on the brake lights when the AC controller is in regen mode. I recommend this alteration to anyone using this kit!

Conversions are mostly for the Prius, with a few for the Ford Escape/Mercury Mariner hybrid SUVs. At that point, we expect the aftermarket companies prices to have come down sufficiently so that their conversions will be attractive to owners of hundreds of thousands of hybrids already on the road. So far, most start as hybrids.

Jo has done an excellent job of "pimping" the ride, the original kit from Blue Sky Designs in Oregon. Jerry is the owner of a PHEV Prius with Plug in Supply conversion kit, plus solar panels on the roof installed by Bob Bruninga, Naval Academy engineering professor. It also has floor brakes and accelerator.

For those of you who have read my blog entries in the past, you know I've blown up the internal FETs of the DC-DC over five times and spent countless hours reverse-engineering the circuit with experts at work to see just what could possibly be wrong with the system. The 9" DC motor from ElectroAuto's kit 20 years ago provided more torque.

Today, I installed the last kit piece that I have from Electro Automotive: the motor controller wiring harness. Here's the harness plugged into the controller and fed through the two-inch computer grommet from the last blog entry. ElectroAuto was gracious enough to color code every single wire to help prevent misconnects.
