Meanwhile, GM has decided to replace the ignition switch in all model years of its Chevrolet Cobalt, HHR, Pontiac G5, Solstice and Saturn Ion and Sky in the US, since faulty switches may have been used to repair the vehicles. About 95,000 faulty switches were sold to dealers and aftermarket wholesalers.

First Acura electric SUV to be named ZDX; co-developed with GM

The ZDX name pays homage to a previous Acura model of the same name, which was the first vehicle styled from the ground up in the Acura Design Studio which opened in Los Angeles in 2007. This vision called for 100% of the company’s North American sales to be battery-electric and fuel cell electric vehicles by 2040.

Report: BYD scuttles F3e battery electric vehicle

BYD has decided not to put the F3e EV into production due to the lack of an enabling environment for electric cars in China, according to a report in China Business News which cited Wang Jianjun, deputy general manager of BYD Automotive Sales Co Ltd. It therefore created the F3DM, a plug-in hybrid compact sedan, Wan said.

Sales of EVs in UK Plummeted 90% in 2009 Compared to Peak in 2007

The UK’s Guardian reports that sales of new electric cars in the UK plummeted by nearly 90% in 2009 to 55 units, compared with their peak sales of 397 units in 2007. Nearly half of the electric vehicles sold last year were the tiny G-Wiz car.
